Town of Otis
All Boards Meeting Minutes
May 23, 2016

The meeting was called to order by Don Hawley at 6:30 pm in the Town Hall conference room. It was announced the meeting was being recorded.

Present: Selectman Don Hawley, Selectman Bill Hiller, Joann Austin, Tom Nadolny, Sandy Pinkham, Terry Gould, Jeanne Randorf, Hank Wingate, and Jim Crandall

School: Joann thanked everyone and said goodbye as School Superintendent and let everyone know it has been a pleasure. She then introduced Tom Nadolny, who will take her place as well as continue as School Principal. Tom is excited about the new position and looks forward to attending the meetings. The Re-enactment at the school this past weekend was a huge success and made the front page of the Berkshire Eagle. There was a large turnout. The Lebanon Militia participated this year and it was setup as if it was part of a militia from those times, which got a lot of interaction from Mr. Kelleher’s kids.

Maintenance: Spring maintenance for the playground equipment and bark mulch has been done. Fixed Police Dept. office window and painted window sills in Town Hall. The Town Hall entrance has been painted, they went on two grinder pump calls, and both the cement pads are installed at the Transfer Station. They covered three days at WWTP while Keith was at class, covered four days sick leave at Transfer Station, and washed Library windows and fixed screens. They need to purchase two new guides for the containers at the Transfer Station. They flushed the sedimentation tanks and cleaned filters at the East Otis Firehouse. They started their seasonal mowing, put up the flags and repaired others in town, and had two funerals. Jim wants to discuss the Transfer Station Rules and Regulations for contractors and commercial permits at Wednesday night’s Select Board meeting.

Cultural Council: Town gardeners have begun planting their containers around town. Thanks to Jim and his crew for their help with the containers. The Town Tag Sale is next Saturday and they are distributing flyers for Otis Community Day. Its June 18th and Wanda Houston and her band will be playing this year.

Finance Board: Budgets are now completed for another year.

Zoning Board: They have two hearings scheduled for the June meeting.

Fire Dept.: They had seven calls last month – mostly brush fires here and on mutual aid calls. The trucks have all been serviced for the year and a trip to Pennsylvania is scheduled for the second week in June for the mid-point inspection on the new truck. Engine One will be traded in for the new truck. They have 400 to 500 feet of hose that is no longer up to code and needs to be declared surplus. If they can’t sell the hose on Craig’s List or to the Fire Academy, then it will leave when the old truck is traded in.

Historic: Hank talked about how great the school programs are and about how great the 5th grade class is. Hank also mentioned that Tom Ragusa has eight miles of the Knox Trail gps’d on a topographic map and it is fantastic.

Technology: They are hoping for good news in a week or so now that the Governor is moving forward with the MBI “to the home” project.

Energy: They are meeting Thursday night.

Don thanked Joann for her many years serving as School Superintendent and he wished Tom many good years here as well.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:58 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Lisa D’Orazio
