Select Board Meeting Minutes
May 8, 2018
Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm in the Town Hall conference room. It’s being recorded and a quorum is present.
Present: Select Board Chair Bill Hiller, Selectman Don Hawley, Town Administrator Becky Stone, Jim Crandall, Michael Ernst, Walter Engels, Russ Loring, Rich Phair
Approval of Minutes: The April 23, 2018 All Boards meeting minutes were unanimously approved as written. The April 25, 2018 Select Board meeting minutes were unanimously approved as written.
Seasonal Maintenance Position: Jim asked the Select Board to accept the application from last year’s seasonal employee. The Select Board unanimously agreed to do so and set the hourly rate.
Berkshire County Mosquito Control Program: The town is no longer required to sign the letter of support that we have signed in past years. The proposed budget for FY2019 was reviewed and this will come from the Intergovernmental Expense Account, which is paid by the state.
Other:
Highway Expenses: Due to a lot of equipment repairs this year, Highway has requested we transfer $8000 from the Snow and Ice Labor account to the Road Machinery account to cover FY2018 costs. Two members of the Select Board and two members of the Finance Board signed the Transfer request.
Steak Roast: The Annual Fire Department Steak Roast will be held at the Main Fire House in the center of town this year on August 25, 2018. Rich asked if he should request having police available to direct traffic and the Select Board strongly recommended he do so.
Dilapidated buildings: Walter inquired about several buildings in town that are falling down and what can the town do about them. The Select Board stated they were privately owned and short of condemning the buildings, we could not do much. Once we condemn the buildings they become our responsibility.
Substitute Rescue Truck: The Explorer is working out great as the backup Rescue Truck.
The Select Board meeting was unanimously adjourned at 7:19 pm.
