Approval of Minutes of Meeting #330: The Minutes of Meeting #330 were unanimously approved as submitted. Motioned by Nick DellaGiustina, Seconded: John Skrip.
Evacuation Updates: The school participated in a non-scheduled fire drill on December 2nd. The evacuation of the building went smoothly. The children were remarkably well behaved since the evacuation lasted roughly 45 minutes to an hour. The children were allowed to go back inside but only to the gym, where they were signed out by parents or brought out to their bus. They only had to wait roughly 15 minutes in the gym prior to being outside.
Mr. Nadolny conversed with the State Police and Otis Police Departments about a better evacuation system when the children have to be outside for a longer period of time and especially in colder weather. We were fortunate that the weather was mild, and the staff had provided some blankets from their cars for warmth. The PTA was generous enough to offer to purchase warming blankets to the school for such occasions, which is greatly appreciated.
There will be a meeting on February 2, 2016 at 10a.m., here at Farmington River, with the local fire departments to discuss possibly heading to the Otis Town Hall or the Otis DPW if there is another situation that comes up. Mr. Nadolny also contacted Dufour, about picking up the students and driving them to a designated location. Other options or ideas will be discussed during this meeting.
Will the School Committee vote to approve Jane Gleason as Chief Procurement Officer for the Farmington River School District: Motioned by John Skrip, seconded by Nick DellaGiustina. The board unanimously voted to appoint Jane Gleason as Chief Procurement Officer for the school district.
Will the School Committee vote to appoint Mr. Thomas Nadolny as Superintendent of the Farmington River Regional School District for the 2016-2017 school year:
Motioned by Nick DellaGiustina, seconded by John Skrip, the School Committee voted 5 votes to 1 vote to appoint Mr. Thomas Nadolny as Superintendent of the Farmington River Regional School District for the school year 2016-2017. The position will be subject to annual renewal, based on School Committee needs. The role as Superintendent will be in the form of an addendum to Mr. Nadolny’s 3-year contract as Principal of the Farmington River Regional School. The Superintendent addendum will be negotiated in Executive Session at a mutually-acceptable time for both parties. A vote is required by the School Committee.
With much discussion between the guests and the School Committee, the School Committee motioned to add an item to agenda #331. Motioned by Jess Drenga, seconded by John Skrip. The item for the School Committee is to form a subgroup to meet with BHRSD about shared resources. Nick DellaGiustina motioned to vote on the item, Jess Drenga seconded. The vote was unanimous to form a subgroup to meet with BHRSD on shared resources and possible merger. The composition, duties, and parameters of this subgroup will be discussed at the February 1st School Committee meeting.
