Otis Cultural Council
April 20, 2022
Meeting held virtually on Zoom. This meeting was recorded.
- Call to Order: 6:01 P.M. Present: Jeanne Randorf, Carole Burke, Deb Fogel, Arlene Tolopko, Shanon Albee
- Approval of the Minutes of March 15, 2022. Deb Fogel motioned to approve the minutes. Arlene Tolopko seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.
III. Chair Report (Jeanne):
- Flower Barrel Program: Jeanne bought two additional barrels with an Agway coupon. She visited 13 flower barrel sights to check on them. Eric will come and pick up the two additional barrels from her.
- Otis Observer article: Jeanne will be asking for volunteers to plant flowers in the barrels.
- Zoom or Hybrid for next three meetings?: Arlene suggested meeting outside at Town Hall, or in the conference room. We will keep the meetings hybrid for now (zoom and in-person).
- Financial update (Shanon):
- Jeanne has a folder for Shanon with a check from the recycling fund and reimbursement from the anti-bullying program.
- Shanon and Jeanne are still trying to get verification on finances.
- Shanon and Jeanne paid for the laminator for the library.
- Future Programming
- The library is accepting our offer to have Rich Hamelin perform at the library fair on July 9th. Kathy Bort will contact him.
- Jeanne wrote to Tom Nadonly (FREES) and Ralph Gleason (Council on Aging) about storyteller and musician Timothy Egmond. Discussed having him perform at the library fair.
- Field Trip Request: Katherine Silk (Grade 3 teacher) has asked about field trip money, but has not submitted a proposal as of this meeting.
- Meghan Martin (Kindergarten) has asked for an additional $20.00 due to extra fuel charges. The committee voted to give her the additional $20.00.
- Stephanie McNair (Celebration Committee) will be needing help with the planning of the event. The location will be The Knox Trail Inn. The committee is looking to hold the event in early September, but a date has not yet been determined. They will be honoring Bill Dyer, Sonia Morrison, and Jack O’Brien.
- Proposal for Square Dance with Cliff Brodeur and Terry Ala Berry (worked with Arlo Guthrie). The cost is $900.00. Discussion of having the square dance at the Otis Celebration event. In 2019 there were only 7 people at the event.
VII. Recycling Program (Deb): Received check for $1,250.00, which is our share of the proceeds from recycling.
- Other Business:
- Arlene will be reimbursed $83.80 for the cost of the additional LGBTQ coloring books (The True Colors of Family) for the elementary school.
- Arlene met with someone who will donate a set of books to the school educating students on different disabilities.
The next meeting will be on May 18, 2022 on Zoom.
