All Boards Meeting Minutes

May 22, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm in the Town Hall conference room.  It was announced the meeting was being recorded.

Present:           Select Board Chair Roberta Sarnacki, Selectman Bill Hiller, Selectman Don Hawley, Jim Crandall, Michael Ernst, Sandy Pinkham, Larry Gould, Kathy Carroll, Derek Poirier, Jeanne Randorf

Animal Control Officer:  She needs a place to keep a kennel and dog house.  Bill and Don noted she should come in and speak with the Select Board.

Building Inspector:  The department is doing okay.

Energy:           Solar panels will be going up on the Main Fire House, East Otis Fire House, Waste Water Treatment Plant, Highway Garage, Transfer Station, and Police Garage.  Bids will be going out in about a month for completion by November.

Cultural Council:  The Tag Sale is on Saturday and June 17th is Community Day at Izaak Walton.  Everyone is invited to bring dinner in for 6:00 pm and the concert will begin at 7:00 pm.

Fire Dept.:       Calls have been quiet.  There was a chimney fire last week and a couple of false alarms.

Highway:        Kyle Pettibone has started back with us as of last Monday, the generators have been sold already, and they are currently grading the roads.

Maintenance:  Backflow protector was installed on Town Hall water system.  Completed spring cleanups and begun mowing.  The beach is set up for the season.  Town Hall has been power washed, screens are in, and AC units are installed.  They chipped brush at the transfer station.  New employees are working out well and a person has been hired for the summer help at the transfer station.  Someone asked about the sand bees at the Beach.  Jim says they have been around for a few years and they are non-aggressive and will not bother anyone.

Police Dept.:  They hired Miguel as a part-time officer and he has begun training and working details.  The department is gearing up for Memorial Day weekend and various summer activities.  Tom Nadolny will be doing another Firearms Training class on June 11th.  The Department is sponsoring an applicant through the Academy in July at no cost to the town.  Sponsoring an applicant does not guarantee a position with the town.

Recreation:      Swim instructors are lined up and they are working on various kids programs for the summer.  There are some privately owned boats that are being stored at the Town Beach and should not be there.

Technology:    Otis plans to start laying fiber for August 1st based upon tentative approval from Verizon.  We have been awarded the full grant amount and it should be here on Wednesday.  The new website OtisFiber.com should be active by June.  And Lyn and Lisa have previewed the new website for the town and it looks good.

Zoning Board of Appeals:  They have a meeting scheduled for June 19th.

Roberta thanked everyone for their support while she served on the Select Board.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:58 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Lisa D’Orazio
