Approval of Minutes of Meeting #337:
Approval of new school policies: Vote Required Three policies were presented to the School Committee to pass and update. All three were state mandated. MASC enacted the Opioid Law. This law requires that each public school have a policy regarding substance use prevention and the education of its students about the dangers of substance abuse. Nick DellaGiustina motioned to pass the new school polocies. Carol Lombardo seconded the motion. The School Committee voted unanimously to pass the policies.
Approval of Nature’s Classroom for the 2016-2017 school year: The School Committee voted on the approval of this coming school year’s Nature’s Classroom trip. There was a change concerning time of year. This year the Nature’s Classroom will be conducted in the fall rather than the spring. This coming year the date is September 26th -30th. Motioned by Carol Lombardo, seconded by Sandy Snyder. The vote was passed unanimously.
SBRSD/FRRSD meeting update: Nicholas DellaGiustina to update on the latest meeting between the two schools. Both schools agreed merging was not going to be an option. The distance is a major issue. There will be another possible meeting to further discuss shared services. There is no date set as of yet.
School Committee to vote the dissolving of the SBRSD/FRRSD Regional School Board and reorganizing as an Ad Hoc Group, only to discuss possible shared services: Nicholas spoke on behalf of this article as well. Both schools want to dissolve the board and create an Ad Hoc group to discuss possible shared services only. Arlene Tolopko motioned and Sandy Snyder seconded the motion. The School Committee voted unanimously in favor of this article.
Busing: Tom Nadolny to update the School Committee on the reorganization of the bus routes—Tom informed the School Committee that Dufour, the bus company with our contract, will be handling the bus routes this year instead of the school. This is not an extra cost, it states in the contract that this service can be provided by Dufour if we so choose.
Adjournment—The meeting was adjourned at 7:45pm. Motioned by Nicholas DellaGiustina, seconded by Carol Lombardo. Voted unanimously.
Respectfully submitted,
Teresa DellaGiustina, secretary
