Otis Library Meeting
Thursday, December 14, 2017
Full Board – 6:30
Members Present: Kathleen Bort, Susan Ebitz, Steve Graves, Eve Kummel, Lois Hall and Celeste Watman
The meeting was called to order at 6:36 with Eve Kummel presiding as chair. Both the November Meeting Minutes and Treasurer’s report were amended and then accepted as read.
No Treasurer’s report was given as Walter was absent.
In her Director’s report, Kathy shared that attendance is average for this time of year, library computer use is steady, but that delivery of bins is lower, 3 to 4 a week. The computer use is steady, two monitors have been replaced and software licenses have been renewed. The staff plans to give out coloring books, activity books, stickers, pens and calendars to patrons. Paul Viale Insurance donated the calendars.
The library is looking forward to the art exhibit of student work from the Farmington River Regional School. A reception and concert will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017.
Each trustee was given a copy of the goals in the Five-Year Plan. Eve suggested that the work associated with the goals be divided among each of the Trustees members. She volunteered to lead the physical reorganization of the library with help from other trustees. Celeste is willing to spear-head a review of library policies and Susan will coordinate outreach efforts to the community. There was a great deal of discussion about reorganizing the space in the library. Kathy made specific suggestions about which books should be moved and where. Steve wanted to eliminate more books, Lois added that a minimum number was required to keep the library viable as a library.
In other new business, Celeste suggested that all the trustees join the Massachusetts Library Trustees organization to share ideas and improve the library.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:34.
Respectfully Submitted,
Susan Ebitz, Recording Secretary
