Otis Cultural Council

 

June 15, 2022

 

Meeting held virtually on Zoom.  This meeting was recorded.

 

  1. Call to Order:  6:02 p.m.  Carole Burke, Jeanne Randorf, Deb Fogel, Shanon Albee, Arlene Tolopko, Faith Weldon

 

  1. Approval of the Minutes of May 18, 2022:  Deb motioned to approve the minutes.  Arlene seconded the motion.  The minutes were approved.

 

III.  Chair Report (Jeanne):  

 

  1. Member Status:  Will be discussed next month.
  2. Flower Barrels:  Jeanne submitted an article for the July issue of the Otis Observer, giving credit to the people who volunteered for a planter.
  3. Hybrid Meetings:  Jeanne reported that the governor had approved to continue hybrid meetings.  The Cultural Council will pay $150.00 a year for a Zoom account with unlimited time for meetings.

 

  1. Financial Update:  (Shanon)

 

Shanon and Jeanne report that Massachusetts Cultural Council (the State agency) granted our local council $5,000 which was deposited to our state account at the end of February.  The Cultural Council has reimbursed the Farmington River Elementary School for an anti-bullying program.

 

  1. Program Update

 

  1. Library Fair:  Kathy Bort gave Jeanne flyers with programs they will be having at the library.

 

  1. Jeanne will update the Cultural Council survey for people to fill out at the library fair.  This survey is required every three years to get community input about events we offer.

 

  1. Kathy Bort is arranging tech sessions for the community.  The Council on Aging said they would be interested in having in-person sessions.  The library will organize two sessions, and the Council on Aging will organize one of the events.  The Cultural Council will pay for all three of the sessions.

 

  1. Feedback from Farmington River Elementary School:  Bubblemania was a huge success.  It was entertaining and educational.

 

  1. The library is thrilled with the laminator.

 

  1. Update on Otis Celebration:  Arlene reported that it will be at the Knox Trail Inn on September 10.  There will be a band in the evening.  Cliff Brodeur will be there with the Housatonic Philharmonic for square dancing from 2-4 p.m.  The Celebration Committee will give $1,000 for food and $500 for the band. They will not need any money from us.

 

VI:  Recycling Program (Deb): The Cultural Council was given a $1,250 check from the recycling program.  The recycling program receives 7 cents per bottle.
