Respond to your Federal Census. Updated info 08/11/2020

I am writing to you to ask that you do one last push to encourage your community to respond to the 2020 Census. The Census Bureau is mailing the seventh and final notice to households that have not yet replied and have also begun the non-response follow-up. Non-response follow-up, which involves a census employee visiting the housing units that have not responded, will run through the end of September. As of this morning, 34.5% of your community has responded, which is less than the 2010 response rate of 36.9%. Note that this percentage includes second homes, so second homeowners are encouraged to complete the census for their local address and record zero people living there.

As a reminder, the federal government distributes approximately $2,500/person/year based on the census numbers.  Your legislative representation at the state and national levels also depends on these counts.  Your community will be living with these counts for the next ten years, so we must count everyone.

Please consider how you can assist in increasing the response rate in your community over the next few weeks.  Anything you can do will help.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
