Select Board Meeting Minutes
November 22, 2016
Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm in the Town Hall conference room.
Present: Chair Roberta Sarnacki, Selectman Don Hawley, Selectman Bill Hiller, Chris Morris, Russ Loring, Mary Adams, Kathy Carroll, Harald Schied, Michael Thiemann, Terry Gould
Approval of Minutes: The November 7, 2016 Select Board meeting minutes were approved as written by Roberta and Bill. Don abstained as he was not present for the meeting.
FY2017 Tax Classification Hearing: Harald Schied presented the prepared information for the Tax Classification Hearing. They are proposing the tax rate per $1000 of valuation change from $7.85 to $8.08 and recommend Otis keep using the single tax rate. Roberta made the motion we accept the new tax rate using a single tax rate, the motion was seconded, and both Don and Bill approved the motion. The Select Board also unanimously authorized Chris Morris to approve the online LA-5 for the Town of Otis. Levy limits and the levy ceiling were discussed and we are within the levy limits. The housing market has remained relatively flat as have valuations.
Board of Health: Nothing to report.
Other:
Rec Center updates: The cameras have been installed by Maintenance in the Rec Center. On November 17th they changed their hours to open at 5:00 am.
East Otis Fire House: This morning as the crew was on their way to a fire call, the fire truck took out a door and part of the building. It was dark at the time of the accident and apparently one of the fold down equipment doors on the truck had been left open. The truck has minimal damage, but the building had to be temporarily repaired to keep out the elements.
Planning Board Documents: Hal has brought up his missing documents once again. The Select Board agreed this is the last time we will be dealing with this non-issue.
Hank: Hank has recently been moved to an assisted living facility, so Don wants to move forward with restoring the East Otis Schoolhouse. We hope to be able to dedicate the project to Hank.
2017 Meeting Schedule and End of Year meetings: Lisa reminded the Select Board that December’s All Boards meeting and the second Select Board meeting were scheduled the day of the Christmas holiday and the day after. The Select Board unanimously agreed to cancel both meetings, but we will still hold the Select Board meeting scheduled for December 13.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.
